Feng Shui to Improve Pregnancy and Prenatal Health

Pregnancy is an exciting time for women with many eagerly working to prepare for the new addition to their family. For pregnant women, the affect of pregnancy, upon the body, requires a change, many times, diet and lifestyle so as to encourage the proper fetal development. When pregnant, it is a woman's home that must provide the safe haven in which to escape from the stresses of daily life and provide an avenue in which to improve overall health, boosting prenatal health and encouraging health pregnancy outcomes.
When pregnant, a woman's physical and emotional health may be improved with the application of simple techniques commonly used in the practice of Feng Shui; adding aromatherapy, the use of pure stones and crystals, the use of color and even sound, to improve the overall Chakra energy, thereby reducing common stress and complications associated with pregnancy and prenatal care.
To reduce the risk of prenatal complications, and boost the health of both the pregnant woman and her unborn child, the home should be modified to make essential repairs so as to encourage positive energy and Chakra stability. First, it is imperative to ensure all electrical systems within the home are functioning properly. This includes areas where frayed wires or improperly functioning outlets may be. Any areas of the home in which electrical supply is not consistent and safe or the air is not ventilated properly, is believed to impair Chakra energy, thereby increasing the risks for prenatal complications.
In addition to these home repairs, strategically placing furniture through the house will also work to boost prenatal health during pregnancy. For example, the home should be free of excessive clutter and furniture which is considered unstable, especially in and around the bed for the pregnant woman. Add bright lighting to the bedroom and, throughout the home, consider using water fountains and fish tanks as an added relaxation element.
In addition to these necessary home repairs and modifications, in an effort to reduce, and prevent, complications to the pregnancy, add home décor to include colorful rooms, removing any furniture or wall colors that do not correspond to the positive fetal development. The colors which promote and encourage healthy pregnancy, most commonly, include red, green, indigo and light blue.
In aromatherapy, purchase essential oil scents in bergamot, fennel, jasmine, marjoram, rosemary and chamomile as all are believed to be powerful scents to improve fertility and pregnancy outcomes. Decorate the home in precious stones including carnelian, citrine, smoky quartz and pink tourmaline. Using these natural products will improve your overall physical health, including the physical health of the entire family.
As with most health care, there is a body-mind connection which both exacerbates the condition as well as works in healing and promoting health. In the case of fertility and pregnancy, the colors, scent and even layout of your home can both work to complicate the pregnancy but can also improve overall prenatal health and birth just by using a few simple techniques commonly used in Feng Shui and, thereby, improving Chakras.

Feng Shui can be very powerful in removing the energy blockages in your environment, in strengthening your own energy and balancing the energy of the bedroom, so in this respect, yes, there are many things you can do to balance and strengthen the flow of energy in your living space.

More specifically, there are some traditional feng shui items, or decor elements that are defined as cures for pregnancy, such as displaying pomegranate fruits, elephants with their trunks down, pictures of babies, etc.

One interesting feng shui cure is to allow several little children to jump to their heart's desire on a childless couple's bed, thus energizing it and inviting the needed energy.

It might be a good idea for you to find a feng shui consultant in your area and see if you can have a professional inspect your house, there might be very weak areas that need attention and this can be revealed only during a feng shui analysis.

Two more things:
  • Be mindful about not having a heavy light fixture, or a ceiling fan over your bed. I see this configuration in many bedrooms, often with the blades of the ceiling fan "cutting through" the energy of the abdominal area of both partners. This is certainly a configuration to be avoided.

  • Ancient feng shui masters were suggesting not to move the bed of a couple that wants to conceive a baby.
As with everything, there is always a combination of factors that lead to a certain outcome. It is certainly wise to do all that is within your control to improve the energy of your space and attract the "fertility chi."

Knowing your Kua number and the personal element can also help tailor some of the cures and make them more effective.

To calculate your kua number (or someone else's kua number), all the information you need is the year of birth and the gender. What do you do with the kua number information? You can find out your best feng shui directions and then do some re-arranging at home and at the office for better health and more success coming your way!

YOUR BEST FENG SHUI DIRECTIONS

To determine your personal Kua Number, you need to do some easy calculations.

First, however, you need to be sure that your year of birth is considered the same in the Chinese calendar. As the Chinese New Year starts on a different day each year, be sure to check the correct birth year used for feng shui purposes.

OK, now we can calculate your Kua number. Let's say that you were born in the year 1968.

Step 1. Add the last two digits of your year of birth (or of the person whose kua number you are calculating.) In the example we have chosen the result will be 6 + 8 = 14. Bring it to a one digit number by adding the two digits 1 + 4 = 5. So, by using our example of the year of birth 1968, the number we calculated in Step 1 is 5.

Step 2If you are calculating the kua number for a female:

  • Add number 5 to the number from Step 1 (5). So, in our example we have 5 + 5 = 10. Bring it to a one digit number by adding the two digits 1 + 0 = 1. Voila, you have just found out the Kua Number for a female!
If you are calculating the kua number for a male:
  • Deduct the number from Step 1 (5) from number 10. So, in our example we have 10 - 5 = 5. And Voila again, you have just found out the Kua Number for a male!
In classical feng shui, you are either a East or a West group person. Once you know your Kua number, you can easily find out your feng shui group, here it is:

EAST Group: Kua Number 1, Kua Number 3, Kua Number 4, Kua Number 9

WEST Group: Kua Number 2, Kua Number 5, Kua Number 6, Kua Number 7, Kua Number 8.

Now you just have to find your feng shui lucky directions and off you go to do some serious furniture re-arranging!

The Bed: Feng Shui Guidelines for Your Bed

Bed Placement: Position Your Bed with Feng Shui

Part III:
Feng Shui Solutions for Your Bed & Bedroom Challenges

Feng Shui Bed

Your bed is the most important feng shui piece of furniture in your entire life. Strong feng shui statement, isn't it? Strong, but true. Your bed is the only piece of furniture that has the most intimate (and intricate!) connection to your personal energy.

The role of the feng shui of your bed and your bedroom in relation to your health, your well-being, as well as the quality of your relationships cannot be overestimated.

Needless to say, feng shui-wise, a good bed is one of the most important feng shui purchases you will make for your own well-being.

What makes a great feng shui bed? Three things:
  1. Good headboard. While you are drifting off to sleep, your body is going intro an extra busy energy repair work on many levels. Subconsciously, your head needs good backing, protection and support, just like your back needs it when you are seating in a chair for extended periods of time.

Best feng shui headboards are the ones that are solid and made from wood, or the upholstered ones, as they have a very good combination of solid, but also gentle and supporting feng shui energy for you and your bedroom.

  2. Good mattress. There is a variety of mattresses on the market, choose wisely and invest in the one that will promote best sleep and relaxation. The better you sleep at night, the better your health during the day, this is really simple. Be mindful of good feng shui energy and do not buy used mattresses - you never know what energy they have accumulated from previous owners.

  3. Good height. To allow for a balanced feng shui energy flow under the bed you need to have your bed at a reasonable height above the floor level. Generally, the beds that have built-in storage drawers underneath to help you with storage solutions are considered bad feng shui beds.

Why are the beds with built-in storage considered bad feng shui? Because the energyneeds to circulate around your body when you sleep, which is not possible if the space underneath the bed is blocked.

Hopefully your bed meets the feng shui criteria for a good (or great!) feng shui bed. What do you do next? Well, you see if it has the best feng shui positioning in your bedroom.
How to Place your Bed in a Good Feng Shui
Bedrooms are very important in feng shui for obvious reasons. Your bed and your bedroom have to have good feng shui to support your personal energy. Your bed also has to maintain the feng shui energy of love and healing. That's a lot of feng shui responsibility for just one piece of furniture, isn't it?

Feng shui bed guidelines are quite easy to follow and implement. Feng shui bed placement, however, is where you may encounter many challenges, all depending on your existing bedroom options.

The first step in creating good feng shui energy in your bedroom is to do your best in meeting the feng shui bed guidelines. Let's assume you already have a good feng shui bed just waiting for the right placement in your bedroom!

The second step is to examine your bedroom and see if you can place the bed in the ideal feng shui spot for your bed - the so-called feng shui commanding position.

Feng shui commanding position is the area further from the door / diagonally from the door, but not in line with the door. In other words, you want to be able to see the door while in bed, but not be aligned with the door.

The other feng shui criteria for a good bed placement are:
  • Good supporting wall behind your bed.
  • Grounding and balanced energy on both sides (e.g. nightstands.)
  • No sharp angles (from wall or furniture corners) pointing at you while you sleep.
It is always smart to position your bed away from the walls that have electric appliances on either side (the computer, the fridge, or the TV.) And, of course, it is best feng shui to limit (or completely eliminate!) the electrical appliances in your bedroom.

Now, do not get mad with me for saying that. And do not think this is impossible. It is quite possible actually, and very, very healthy! For example, if you switch the electrical alarm clock for a battery operated one, you will considerably lower the harmful EMFs in your bedroom. And your body will thank you!

  • Avoid a bed in line with the bedroom door, as well as any other doors - be they balcony doors, bathroom door, walk-in closet or patio doors.
  • If possible, place the bed according to your best, or lucky feng shui directions.

When finding the best placement for your bed, you should always listen to the room, so to speak, and experiment with the best bed placement. If you can have both best feng shui bed placement and your best directions requirements met, then great! If you can't, please do not worry and think your life is going to be a mess (I am kidding here.)

Do not place your bed in a corner or angle the bed in a room just so that you can sleep facing your best feng shui directions. And do not sleep in the living room just so that you can face your best directions!

Approach feng shui logically and practically, and, most importantly, in an empowered way. If your bed cannot face your best feng shui directions, you can sure focus on facing your lucky directions when you work, watch TV, or eat dinner! Be creative and be smart, and know that there are solutions for almost everything in feng shui.

If at this point you are thinking "There is no way I can find a good feng shui bed position in my poor bedroom!", then the next part of this article is for you. Let's deal with all the possible challenges in your bedroom and find the best feng shui solutions for them.

The truth you need to know is that very few bedrooms have perfect feng shui. Unless you had the luck of designing and building your house with feng shui in mind, you will, most probably, have to face some challenges while creating a good feng shui bedroom.

Without any further introductions, let's go straight to the challenges you might encounter in a modern bedroom and find the best feng shui solutions for a good feng shui bedroom you absolutely deserve!

Let's start with the biggest, or most common feng shui challenges in a modern bedroom.

MOST COMMON FENG SHUI BEDROOM CHALLENGES:
  • Mirror Facing the Bed
You probably know that a mirror facing the bed is a big feng shui red flag, or a feng shui "NO!" for a good bedroom. Either a mirror from a closet door, a mirror from a piece of furniture or a free standing mirror - you do not want a mirror to reflect your bed.

  • Bed In Line With the Door
Be it the bedroom door, the door to the balcony/patio, the ensuite bathroom door or your closet doors, you do not want your bed in line with any of the doors in your bedroom
    .
  • Beams, Ceiling Fan or a Chandelier Above Your Bed
The only thing you want above your bed when you sleep is a soft canopy. This is about it. Nothing heavy, nothing hanging, please do not hang wind chimes and bells above your head, this is bad feng shui.
  • Bed Under the Window

    • In addition to a good headboard, you always want to have a solid wall behind your bed. When you sleep under the window, your personal energy tends to get weaker over time, as it has neither proper support, nor protection.

  • Bed Under A Sloped Ceiling
When you spend time under a sloped ceiling, your energy is being heavily constricted and is under constant pressure. As nighttime is the only time when your body can do the deep work of regenerating itself, sleeping under a sloped ceiling restricts this work, thus one's health may suffer. Sleeping in a bed under a sloped ceiling can also contribute to emotional instability and low energy.

  • Bed With Access From Only One Side
A bed with access from only one side limits the flow of energy to your bed. While it looks like all is quiet and you are sleeping, your body is busy doing intense work and is looking to use all the energy it can to improve your health. When the flow of energy to your bed is restricted, your body does not receive the optimum help it needs. In addition, if you are in an intimate love relationship, having a bed with access from only one side can limit the open flow of communication between partners.

  • Bed Close to the Bedroom Door
A bed close to the bedroom door is considered bad feng shui because doors usually have a strong flow, or rush of incoming energy. This energy can be very unsettling and too active as compared to the energy you want close to your bed. In order to create good feng shui energy in your bedroom, you need to have the most nourishing, relaxing and sensual energy around your bed.
